In today's bearcast I look at the writings of Ian Cowie in the Sunday papers and his cunning scheme to avoid IHT by losing all your money and his patronising view that journalists know better and can be trusted. A bit like Estate Agents and MPs then? I then discuss Luke Johnson's view that we are celebrating the business woes of Jamie Oliver because we envy him. Luke is not all wrong but overlooks the fact that Oliver is a patronising A grade A'hole.

Jamie Oliver insults Brexit voters (i.e. 52% of the population) and his business is going down the plughole. Tim Martin of JD Wetherspoon tells it as it is and has served up a cracking trading statement today with his company trading strongly and ahead of forecast. Perhaps a lesson there for you Jamie, you patronising and unintelligent little man. Back to our hero Martin whose message on Brexit is uncompromising, lashing out at the CBI, The Guardian and others who tell lies.

The Jamie's Italian chain is in trouble. It emerged last week that its parent company, the holding company for the interests of the self important chef, has had to hand out, what it terms, a short-term loan to keep the chain going. Jamie has also brought in outside consultants Alix Partners to devise a turnaround for the chain which in 2016 lost £9.9 million on sales of £112 million. Despite shutting six sites in January it is still bleeding cash. There are some big takeaways from this.

The fraud African Potash (AFPO) has until 7 January ( saturday) to find a new Nomad or its shares get booted off the AIM casino first thing Monday. On the ISDX lobster pot (now known as the NEX lobster pot) it can't get a placing away - for reasons explained in this podcast - so it will be tits up within weeks. That has implications for Blenheim Natural Resources (BNR). Jamie Oliver is blaming Brexit as he shuts six of his over-priced branded eateries. But he is just another celeb tosser don't you think? The launch of the Government's obesity strategy today sees all concerned spouting self righteous and sanctimonious waffle. What you stick into your body whether it be Krispy Kreme Donuts, cigarette smoke, vodka or the todger of a bloke you have just met in a lavatory on Clapham Common is your own business. It has nothing to do with the state.

Wandering through the streets of Athens today I happened upon a book stall set up by the side of the road. Pride of place at the top of the heap was the Greek version of one of Jamie Oliver’s works.
Youth unemployment at 65%, unemployment at 30%, massive cuts in the standard of living, corrupt politicians, German imposed austerity, the music of Nana Mouskori, Nazi Occupation in World War Two, a bitter Civil war afterwards and now Jamie. Surely it is time to say that poor Greece has suffered enough and that it does not need this one last misery heaped upon its suffering people?
